Serpents of Circe: A Manual to Magical Resilience

Editors: Laura Tempest Zakroff & Ron Padrón

Initiates of Unnamed Path, Sawyer Massie and Adam Black, are honored to have been selected to contribute in The New Aradia series, Serpents of Circe: A Manual to Magical Resilience (Revelore Press, 2024).

Serpents of Circe follows in the footsteps of the first two volumes in The New Aradia series, collecting the wisdom and lived experiences of over three dozen magical practitioners, activists, and teachers worldwide to serve as inspiration and a roadmap to crafting inclusive, inspired communities. The shift from “resistance” to “resilience” in this edition is in preparation for the next step in building solidarity, enhancing awareness, fostering sustainability, and establishing long-term goals that affect us all locally and globally.

So why have we chosen “Serpents of Circe” as a title? In keeping with the mythic realm of Aradia and the Gorgons, we are turning to Circe as inspiration for our third volume. Daughter of the sun god Helios and the ocean nymph Perse, Circe is a goddess of sorcery and said to be the first Witch in Greek Mythology. She was highly skilled in the magics of transmutation, herbalism and potion-making, as well as necromancy. Spiritually and metaphysically, serpents are beings of creation, renewal, and transformation as well as protectors and guides to the underworld. The combined energy of these two ideas speak to an evolving legacy of magic rooted in wisdom, sustainability, empowerment, flexibility, and practicality.
